Who doesn’t love a good co-op? While traditional grocery stores are more convenient for many people – cooperatives like this one and La Montañita Co-op in New Mexico are serving our communities health needs far better. Quality is more important than anything – and it is much less commonly found in commercialised establishments, especially when taking prepared foods into consideration.
This co-op has a beautiful selection of produce with a lot of local options. They usually have wheatgrass cartons, which can be difficult to find elsewhere! They have a self-serve food bar for breakfast and lunch/dinner with a rotating daily menu, as well as two daily soups. Most if not all of the ingredients used in their food bar are organic. Everything I have had there was absolutely delicious and included a wide variety of things such as Jamaican style tempeh and vegetables, traditional southwestern food like pinto beans and green chile, to red Thai tofu. At least half of their daily menu is vegan, with some days being nearly all vegan! In fact, just thinking about it is making me hungry.
In addition to this, they have a cold section with more prepared foods like sandwiches and hummus to go, along with a massive cold beverage section. Their bulk foods section is massive; with the widest selection of bulk herbs I have ever seen in a grocery store.
